BFRO #76970: Multiple large creatures heard screaming 5 miles NW of Sparta

It�s taken me some time to digest the incident, but I cannot explain what I heard on that day in June of 2023. I was 35 at the time. I was with my son, who was 12. We were fishing a stretch of the New River along the NC and VA border in Alleghany County, near Sparta, NC. We were on the downstream side of a bridge just off of Farmers Fish Camp Rd. The river bends to the north, just ahead of where we were standing in the middle of the river (I�m guessing north as it was to my left as looking at it.). It was just about dark, with maybe thirty minutes of light left. We were making our way across the river, towards the boat ramp when the strangest noise I�ve ever heard began to fill the entire river valley. We were completely alone and everything else went quiet when the sound of �20 people dying combined with the most guttural sounds I�ve ever heard,� was how I described it to a friend the next day. I was casting my reel as the noise started, but I suddenly froze as the hair on the back of my neck rose up. I paused and looked over at my 12 year old son, who had done the same but maybe ten yards from me and closer to the sound than I. I�ve fished this area my entire life, hunted these woods my entire life and have never heard anything close to what we both heard just to the right of the bend ahead of us, maybe 300-400 yards to the east of the boat ramp and up a small valley, just off the edge of a field into the woods. This noise carried on for what felt like an entire minute or more and then just as suddenly as it began, it just stopped. We could not hear anything but the sound of the river once it was over. No birds. No people. Nothing. I did my best to appear strong and not freaked out, so I just went back to casting my reel, but also slowly moving towards the ramp, not saying a word. My son mimicked my movements until we were safely back to the truck. We came back home and immediately went to YouTube to check to find anything similar to that noise. Nothing was remotely close that either of us could find. I�ve had bobcats scare the daylights out of me while fishing, but this� this was not even close. Whatever this was terrified me beyond anything I�ve experienced. I am a two time Iraq war veteran. I honestly thought I was going crazy to begin with, but the look on my sons face was reassuring that I wasn�t. I can�t say for 100% certainty that it was a Sasquatch, but whatever it was was big, and wasn�t a well known or documented creature.
