📝 Description
Samuel Nicholas Klack, a 30-year-old man from Calgary, was reported missing on March 9, 2023. He was last seen at the Holiday Inn Express in the 2300 block of Banff Trail NW, Calgary, wearing a brown and tan plaid jacket and described as 6'5" tall, about 260 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. His blue 2012 Dodge Journey with Manitoba plates was later found with front-end damage in the Red Deer area, raising concern he may be in Red Deer. On March 12, 2023, Red Deer RCMP located Klack walking on 67 Street in Red Deer after initially responding to a call that originated from a phone belonging to a man reported missing in the Calgary area. Klack did not identify himself and allegedly ran at officers, producing an item resembling a firearm; one officer fired and another used a non-lethal projectile. Klack was treated at a Calgary hospital, and the incident was captured on RCMP vehicle cameras. The missing-person case subsequently became linked to the RCMP shooting in Red Deer. In March 2023, ASIRT opened an investigation; in May 2025, ASIRT concluded the RCMP officer’s use of force was justified and there were no reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed a criminal offence. Separately, Klack faced Manitoba charges in late 2024 related to assaults on a police officer with a weapon and using an imitation firearm, and was sentenced to two consecutive 12-month house arrests with a 10-year firearms prohibition.
