Kevin 'Bear' Henry, a 37-year-old Indigenous two-spirit person from the Penelakut Nation, disappeared on Vancouver Island on November 27, 2021, while traveling to Fairy Creek protest camps. Their camper van became stuck on Gordon River Road northwest of Honeymoon Bay, leading to more than two months in the Caycuse/Fairy Creek area. On February 9, 2022, two Gemini logging workers found Henry on a logging road near Lake Cowichan, after which Henry walked about 15 hours to reach help and was dropped off at a Tim Hortons in Lake Cowichan. Henry had survived roughly 74 days in the wilderness by eating canned beans, cat food and other scraps and by drinking melted snow, losing significant weight but later being treated at a hospital. RCMP confirmed Henry was located alive.
